whatever it is, George Hincapie and his cheery band of fellow travelers have somehow managed – again – to write their own histories. Hincapie IS NOT a drug cheat. he is in fact a good ol’ boy who gave and still gives a whole load of something back to cycling. god bless him and the flea-bitten horse called Hypocrisy he rode in on.

for his Gran Fraudo this year, a whole raft of guys who know a crapload about hiding needle marks will be attending. Lance will be there, Michael Barry and Tom Danielson too. Dave Zabriskie was supposed to join in but has since said he can’t…

Public Health in Action – Heather Freeman Believes We All Have Capes

http://www.GutsyGirlClub.com

As I described on a previous post, the internet is one of the easiest ways to connect with someone else with similar interests and views.  Heather Freeman of the Gutsy Girl Club reached out to me after reading one of my blog interviews.  After checking out her website and understanding the concept of how she was impacting the world around her, I knew that it would be a great addition and offer a unique perspective – empowerment.  Empowerment is essential in sustaining new behaviors and programs long after funding resources have dried out.  Empowerment passes the torch to individuals and allows them to want it for themselves.  It shifts from motivation from extrinsic to intrinsic; it places ownership and accountability back into the individual’s hands.   Her concepts parallel the views Paulo Freire advocated for: an interactive form of education and social justice…

Battle For The Net

If you woke up tomorrow, and your internet looked like this, what would you do? Imagine all your favorite websites taking forever to load, while you get annoying notifications from your ISP suggesting you switch to one of their approved “Fast Lane” sites.Think about what we would lose: all the weird, alternative, interesting, and enlightening stuff that makes the Internet so much cooler than mainstream Cable TV. What if the only news sites you could reliably connect to were the ones that had deals with companies like Comcast and Verizon? On September 10th, just a few days before the FCC’s comment deadline, public interest organizations are issuing an open, international call for websites and internet users to unite for an “Internet Slowdown” to show the world what the web would be like if Team Cable gets their way and trashes net neutrality. Net neutrality is hard to explain, so our hope is that this action will help SHOW the world what’s really at stake if we lose the open Internet. If you’ve got a website, blog or tumblr, get the code to join the #InternetSlowdown here: https://battleforthenet.com/sept10thEveryone else, here’s a quick list of things you can do to help spread the word about the slowdown: http://tumblr.fightforthefuture.org/post/96020972118/be-a-part-of-the-great-internet-slowdown Get creative! Don’t let us tell you what to do. See you on the net September 10th!

Dear Coal Roller

Do you know how stupid your ‘rolling coal’ movement is?

For the benefit of others, this article explains what ‘rolling coal’ is and how it’s supposedly a protest against EPA regulation and Obama (it’s always Obama, right?). I’m still trying to figure out how exactly this is a protest – If anything, this is a provocation.

You desire to tell the EPA and Obama that they won’t change you, but your actions will prompt the rest of us (not even the liberals) to ask for changes to protect us from your stupidity. Do you realize that you shouldn’t provoke people? From the article, the following quote:

“I run into a lot of people that really don’t like Obama at all,” the salesperson said. “If he’s into the environment, if he’s into this or that, we’re not. I hear a lot of that. To get a single stack on my truck—that’s my way of giving them the finger. You want clean air and a tiny carbon footprint? Well, screw you.”

Oh, now I get it – It’s not actually a protest – It’s just plain old hate. Give O the finger and spread a little toxic love across the land…

As far as I know, nobody wanted to prevent anyone from using a diesel, in fact some of the most fuel efficient vehicles on the road are diesels (I own one – a VW TDI). In fact, this country relies on them a great deal for transport of goods, farm machinery, public transit, etc. But, along comes this behavior and now you put a big target on your vehicles – It’s idiotic and it will backfire on you (no pun intended).

When you purposely spew toxic exhaust from the vehicle “to protest”, you are actually trying to inflict harm on others.  You are creating a health issue and endangering people.  Your “protest” is misguided and you will bring upon yourself your own restrictions because you lack self control and appear to be too stupid to even know how misguided this practice is.  But, hey, it’s easier to just give a finger than it is to think about the consequences of your choices.

Regards,
Clean diesel owner

AN UPDATE:

TPM reached out to Liz Purchia, the press secretary for the EPA, about the changes. Purchia told TPM “the short answer is this is illegal.”

Immigration Thoughts

What America is supposed to stand for:

What some seem to be turning America into:

20140706-115440-42880606.jpg

It seems we’ve forgotten who the original immigrants were and how we were welcomed:

Frankly, I don’t fault this idea but I won’t be leaving and don’t want new immigrants to leave either:

America is a land of opportunity and immigrants made it what it is today.  The racist attitude surrounding our immigration conversation today is sickening and we need to start acting like the nation of immigrants that we actually are.  We need to stop refusing opportunity to people because they are brown or poor and represent opportunity and freedom, not hatred and racism.

This was my great-great grandfather – An immigrant – Most likely similar to one of your forefathers. He migrated to the U.S. from his home in Budapest, departing from Bremen, Germany on the 21st of June, 1906.  He arrived in Baltimore, Maryland on July 7, 1906 and gave his occupation as shoe repairer after declaring he was not an anarchist.  My great-great grandfather had $12 in his pocket.  I am not sure my great great grandfather would be welcome today, as poor as he was when he immigrated.  I am not sure yours would have been welcome either.
